The goal is to customize the site to serve their instructional goals and institutional structure. These sessions address configuration sessions via the GUI (Graphic User Interface) and will not cover technical topics, including but not limited to server maintenance and installation.
Check to see if an Ally provider already exists. If an Ally provider exists, you just need to add placements to the provider. If not, create one.
After you have added a new LTI provider, it appears on the LTI providers list. From here, you can place the tool in Learn.
You need the Tool Provider/Consumer Key, Tool Provider/Shared Secret, and Client ID to configure the course accessibility report.

If you opt for the AICC integration, you do not need to sync the API content keys, but you must manually manage course content. If you opt for the API content sync, you can enable reporting only through LTI integration. If you configure SAML SSO with API content sync, your organization will not have a reporting feature.

The SafeAssign Global Reference Database is a separate database where students voluntarily submit copies of their papers to help prevent plagiarism. It is separate from each institution's internal database, where all papers are stored by each corresponding institution. Students are free to select the option to check their papers without submitting them to the Global Reference Database. Students are not required to submit papers to this database. They submit their papers voluntarily and agree not to delete papers in the future. Blackboard does not claim ownership of submitted papers.
SafeAssign is based on a unique text-matching algorithm capable of detecting exact and inexact matching between a submitted paper and source material. This proprietary algorithm analyzes submission text and optimizes the words and terms to be searched against multiple data sources. Results returned from each service are further processed based on both the weight returned by the search service and comparative weighting by the SafeAssign algorithm, which determines the result set to be returned in the Originality Report.
SafeAssign officially supports English only, but the service has no technical limitations that preclude using it with other languages. The results may vary and aren't guaranteed. Blackboard has a partnership with another plagiarism vendor, TurnItIn. The Learn SaaS offering secures all communication over the Internet with Transport Layer Security (TLS) technology. TLS ensures that a communication is not read or changed by another entity. Blackboard Learn uses TLS to secure communications between the Web server and the client machine; e.g., a browser.
A limited set of staff would have command-line and back-end access through the use of SSH keys. Access is only possible via SSH keys, a more secure method of access versus username/passwords. Keys are managed by a small group and can be revoked at any time.
The SaaS application code has been built with security in mind. The Security Team has been involved in the full SDLC to ensure we build security in from the very beginning, following our Security Assurance Program. We have adopted new technologies and taken advantage of their built-in security features and best practices.
The simplest way to obtain a certificate for use with a web site is through a vendor known as a Certifying Authority (CA). You're responsible for working with a widely accepted vendor to purchase a certificate. Blackboard doesn't assist with purchase or renewal of your certificate.
The server responds that it will also use the session key. After each side confirms, the session keys are used to encrypt and decrypt communications during the session.
TLS works through public key encryption. Transmissions are decrypted and encrypted using certificates. The steps below outline the process for establishing a connection over TLS: 1 Client contacts the server with a list of encryption methods. 2 The Server returns its certificate and a public key. These initial communications are scrambled with random data. 3 Client validates the certificate. 4 Client creates a secret string using an encryption method recognized by both the client and the server. The string is combined with the server's public key and sent back to the server. 5 Both the client and server create session keys based on the secret string. 6 The client sends a message to the server that it will now use the session key to encrypt and decrypt communications. 7 The server responds that it will also use the session key. 8 After each side confirms, the session keys are used to encrypt and decrypt communications during the session.
TLS offloading relieves the Blackboard Learn application of the processing burden of encrypting and decrypting traffic sent via TLS. Offloading TLS is accomplished by connecting the TLS terminating system to the Learn application 8081 port and passing the required X-FORWARDED-FOR and X-FORWARDED-PROTO HTTPS header elements. Certificates created in this way are usually registered and good for one year. After one year the certificate will no longer work and a new certificate must be obtained. To remain secure, Blackboard recommends certificates with RSA key sizes at least 2048 bits in length.
As per the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) guidelines for Key Management ( SP 800-57 ), Table 4 for recommended algorithms and minimum key sizes, certificates with RSA key sizes at or under 1024 bits are no longer considered secured and a minimum 2048 bits is considered secure through 2030.
