Weighted totals are calculated based on percentages and not based on grading schemas/letter grades. Columns included in the weighted total aren't displayed using the same grading schema as the input grade values.

You can't edit a submitted assignment, but you may be allowed to resubmit it. However, you can't resubmit all assignments. Check if you can submit an assignment more than once. If you can't and made a mistake, you must contact your instructor to ask for the opportunity to resubmit the assignment.

A major project is worth 100 points, twice as much as all of the discussion boards combined, therefore Johnny can see that the project is weighted more heavily than the discussion boards. The difficulty with total points (from my perspective) is that it impedes flexibility.
The quiz is weighted more heavily than the discussions so it was worth more of his overall grade. The difficulty with weighted grades (some may argue) is that the student may have trouble determining what assignments are really more important if they are accustomed to more points= more value.
If a student doesn’t do the assignment they are aren’t penalized. When you are assign points for the extra credit assignment, the extra points will improve the student’s total points for the course.
