Go to course settings, click on “more options” towards the end of the page, and then check “hide grade distribution graphs from students,” and remember to “update course settings” to save the change. At this point, Canvas does not have an option to make it a default value for courses.Dec 6, 2019

In the Grade Center, there must always be one grade column designated as the final grade for the course. This designation is called the External Grade Column. By default, the Total column is the External Grade, but you can set a different column, and should if using weighted totals.Sep 20, 2016

To set the external grade, open a column's menu and select Set as External Grade. The External Grade icon appears in the column header you chose and no icon appears in the default total column header. If you copy or restore a course, the external grade column you chose remains as the external grade column.
By default, all results display the course average, which cannot be removed. You can also view the average grade percentage for all students, which is not affected by any filter [1]. By default, analytics selects all assignment types to display within the page [2].Jun 10, 2021
A standard feature in Canvas permits students to view a Grade Distribution Graph (GDG) for individual assignments in the course grade center. This distribution graph shows the mean score, high score, and low score.
When students click “View Grades” from the bottom left corner of the Dashboard, they see a list of the courses they are taking, with a place for the total grade for each assignment group. Any course grades are visible here even if the left navigation link to Grades in a particular course is hidden.
