Adapting James M. Lang’s advice for How to Teach a Good First Day of Class, here are 4 quick reasons why this can help your students:
When you request your course in Blackboard, you can specify a date when you would like the course to open to students. Once that date is set, you can still change it with the new Course Availability Settings tool. You can access the Course Availability Settings in 3 locations:
Webinar mode is not available for our clients on the Moderator Access (Classroom) license. It is available for clients on our Department and Enterprise licenses. For questions about your license or to upgrade, please contact your Blackboard Account Executive.
Event details include the name, date, and time of a session. Decide if the session is open ended or recurring. Make the name something meaningful for your attendees so they know what the session is for.
Gallery view lets you see the most students at one time. With this view you can see up to 25 attendees on a page. 25 is the optimum number of videos you can show on a page and still see enough detail for visual non-verbal feedback.
By default, everyone joins the session as a participant. Session owners and course instructor join as a moderators. Use the Default Attendee Role menu to change the default for guests and students.
Allow recording downloads: If you are the session owner, you don't need to turn this option on to download recordings. Session owners, course instructors, and administrators can always download recordings. The Allow recording downloads check box lets others download the recording.
Guest access. Guests are attendees who don't need to sign into the session or be enrolled in your course to join the session. Guests don't require authentication. When you allow guest access, a guest link is available for the session. This link is a public link that can be used and shared by anyone who has it.
To help manage the increased number of attendees, webinar sessions have these limitations. Webinar sessions can't be longer than 24 hours in length. Attendees see a maximum of 2 videos at a time. Guests must be assigned the participant role. Participant permissions are turned off.
You don't want students to work ahead. Example: Release your final test during your institution's scheduled final tests week.
To remove a conditional release rule, select Visible to students or Hidden from students in the visibility menu for the content item. Open the Conditional Availability panel again if you want to set up a new rule.
You can use learning modules in your course as a container for organized collections of content. Modules let students navigate from one content item to the next without distractions or extra clicks.
You add an access code because you want some students to take the assessment before others. You can release the access code only to the first group of students. The students who take the assessment later can't preview the assessment before they take it.
Automated feedback allows your to provide feedback on individual auto-graded question types. Students automatically receive the feedback based on the timing release settings you provide. Feedback can be added at the question level at this time.
To add more security to your assessments, you can turn on both the Lockdown Browser and access code and they'll work together . Students need to provide the correct access code before the LockDown Browser is launched.
Tests are always available to instructors in the Ultra Course View, but anonymously submitted surveys aren't supported at this time.
Exceptions are different from accommodations you set in the course roster. An accommodation applies to all due dates or time limits in your course for an individual student. Exceptions aren't allowed for due dates and time limits for an individual student or group at this time. Exceptions are only allowed for the show on and hide after dates and additional attempts.
As you select assessment settings, you can allow students to see the correct answers to automatically scored questions after they submit. For example, you want students to see which questions they missed on a multiple attempt assessment, but not see the correct answers.
You can issue an access code to control when students and groups take an assessment. At this time, access codes are generated randomly by the system. You can't customize the access codes.
