When you are ready to start the groups, you press Start and the participants are automatically moved from the main room and into their breakout group. You can communicate with the breakout groups via the Everybody chat or by moving yourself into a breakout group.

In the meeting controls, select Breakout rooms . Select Room settings . Switch the Let people return to the main meeting toggle on. Select the back button < to save your changes. Move a person to a different breakout room. Participants can be moved when breakout rooms are open or closed. In the meeting controls, select Breakout rooms .
Choose the Course Group Set option when assigning Breakout Group participants. You can allow participants to access Breakout Groups themselves by checking the Allow attendees to switch groups button. Just select the number of groups required and click Start, initially leaving all participants in the main room.

Breakout groups have their own private audio, video, whiteboard, application sharing, and chat. Any collaboration that takes place in a group is independent of the Main room (and other groups). What is said or viewed in a breakout room isn't captured in recordings.
To start recording, open the Session Menu. From the Session Menu, select Start Recording. The recording camera appears on with a red dot while recording is in progress. To finish recording, open the Session Menu and select Stop Recording.Jun 18, 2019

Breakout groups are designed for group collaboration. Every attendee in the group is a presenter. This means that all group members can share the whiteboard, files, and applications with the rest of their group.
Moderators can move themselves between groups any time. Moderators must give you permission to move yourself to another group.

You can choose the number of groups. How many options you have depends on the number of attendees in the session. Blackboard will distribute attendees based on there being at least two in each group, so if you have four attendees you will only have the option of two groups, with two people in each.
Custom groups will take longer to set up because, unless you let participants switch groups, you or another moderator will need to drag and drop each participant into the required group. This may be okay for small numbers, but would take a lot of time with a large group.
Simply click on Group 1, Group 2 etc. in your list of groups and type the new name.
Breakout groups are temporary structures; once you end breakout groups you will lose the participant lists, the group names and anything that is being shared on screen in the group (for example, whiteboard drawings).

If you chose Automatically in the previous procedure, participants will be assigned to breakout rooms as soon as you open the rooms. If you chose Manually, follow these steps.
If you want, rename each room to reflect the group of people it contains, what they’ll be working on, or something else.
When you set a time limit, a timer is visible in each breakout room so that participants are aware of when the session will end. When time is up, the rooms close and participants return to the main meeting.
By default, meeting participants are moved to their assigned rooms as soon as you open the room, but you can turn off this setting; see Turn off automatic entry to breakout rooms.
As meeting organizer, you can join any of the breakout rooms, contribute to any of the room chats, and send announcements to everyone.
When you close the breakout rooms, the participants return to the main meeting.
Unless the organizer manually unassigns people from their breakout rooms, the same rooms and room assignments will be available for the next meeting.
Provide a slide with clear written instructions when explaining the breakout task, leaving this visible in the main room for late arrivals, or participants experiencing technical difficulties. Remember that once participants are in the breakout room they will not be able to see slides in the main room . You should therefore ensure instructions are replicated on any documents you provide for the activity.
Breakout groups are an effective way to bring variety to seminars and get students collaborating. However, without proper management they can become counterproductive. This guidance provides advice for making breakout groups a success in your teaching.
Situational or scenario-based activities also work well as a breakout exercise, with participants tasked to decide a course of action from a selection of choices. Results can then be polled in the main room for further deliberation and feedback. These work best with authentic ‘real-world’ scenarios, taken from relevant case studies, in turn forming the basis for further research, follow-up activities and assignments.
Just as in a physical setting it’s important to prime discussion-based activities so that participants have something to bring with them into the breakout group. For instance, a simple ranking activity (e.g. in which four pieces of source material are ranked 1-4 by each student in order of preference) can give everyone a stake in the discussion, and make points of debate immediately apparent. Such exercises also synergise well with polling tools. Priming activities should be simple, with low barriers to entry, but provide a foundation for more complex discussions to emerge.
In theory any activity which would work in a physical setting should work in a breakout group. In practice, certain activities tend to succeed more than others. An online environment can however provide opportunities unavailable in a physical setting.
The Breakout rooms allow a meeting organizer to divide the meeting into sub-groups to facilitate discussions and brainstorming sessions. The organizer can start the Breakout rooms in a Teams meeting or a Teams channel meeting. The meeting organizer can create, rename, and delete rooms as needed.
To broadcast an announcement message via meeting chat to all Breakout rooms, in “Breakout rooms” pane, click 3 dots ( … more options) and select Make an announcement. Note: Participants can see this announcement message and respond it in the Breakout room chat. Organizer also can access each Breakout room chat.
To rename the room, click the room’s 3 dots ( … more options,) then select Rename room. Enter the new name for the room, then select Rename room. To delete a Breakout room, click the room’s 3 dots ( … more options,) then select Delete room. To add an additional room, in the “Manage rooms” section, click Add room.
You can only organize the participants into Breakout rooms once the meeting has started. Participants can join a Breakout room via Desktop, Mobile, or Web version. In the Breakout room, participants can record the meeting or use Whiteboard to collaborate the work.
