After you select the students, open the menu next to one of their names and select Create a new group. You can also move multiple students to a group listed in the menu. Edit the group name if you want to change the default naming. Optionally, provide a group description that also appears to members of that group.
Course group smart views You can create smart views that are based on groups you create in your course. You can use course group smart views in two ways: Students use the groups to collaborate with other students and complete group assignments. You create smart views to track their progress.
Locate the Weighted Total column in the Grade Center. Click the Action Link (drop-down arrow) in the column heading, then select Edit Column Information from the menu. If you do not have a Weighted Total column, create one by clicking Create Calculated Column > Weighted Total. Required: Fill in the column name.

Weighted Total vs. Total: the two columns are created by default in every Blackboard space. The Total column shows the number of points attained out of the total possible. You will now see a screen labeled Create Smart View. To create a smart view for a child course section, follow the instructions below:
From the Send Email tool in Blackboard, click “Select Groups.” Move the Sections to the “Selected” box and compose your email.
Do you want to see how your students are doing at a glance? The Grading Color Codes allows you to color the text or the cell of each student based on their grades. For example, student’s with a grade of 80% or higher can be displayed as green, 70%-79% yellow, and 69% or lower as red.
Smart Views use criteria to filter the columns and/or students for easier viewing. Creating a Smart View for each section allows you to select only that section’s students when you enter grades. Smart Views allow you to organize your Grade Center in a wide variety of ways. For example, here's an easy way to view only those students assigned to a given section.
You can create a Smart View of the Grade Center for each section that contains only the students in that section.
Joe wants to identify students who perform poorly on the first exam. To do this, he can quickly create a Smart View to filter students by score. In this case, Joe wants to identify students who earned less than 20 points out of 40 points possible on the first exam.
Since Joe made this Smart View a favorite, he can access it from Grade Center section in the Control Panel.
