Editing and Deleting Journal Entries

You can edit and delete your journal entries if your instructor allows it. However, if you edit or delete gradable journal entries, the original graded entry will be lost.

Viewing Journal Grades

Once individual Journal entries have been graded, you can view your grade in two places. The grading information appears on the Journal topic page and in the My Grades tool.

You won’t be able to drag files to upload if your institution uses an older version of Blackboard Learn. You can use the file name or provide another name for the file. Select Post Entry to submit the journal entry or select Save Entry as Draft to add the entry later.

1. There are two types of journal in Blackboard. You can tell which type you are using easily by looking at the information in the box on the right.

Is it private?

Note that it is difficult to tell whether an individual journal really is private, especially if the instructor does not make this clear within their descriptive text. To be sure click on the Tools menu and then Journals to get to the list of all Journals on the course. This shows the visibility of the Journal.

2. In the middle of the box you can see who else has made posts in the journal and click on their name to view their posts. You may also use the [<] and [>] arrow buttons to move between people.

3. The final section of the box shows a breakdown of entries per week or month depending on how it has been set up by the instructor.

How to grade a journal entry?

Basic journal grading workflow 1 After you review a student's journal entries and comments, close the journal layer and select the Gradebook icon on the navigation bar. 2 On the Gradebook page in list view, you can view how many students have made entries. Switch to the grid view to start grading. 3 In grid view, navigate to the journal's column. New Submission appears in cells for students with entries. Select the Grade Now link to assign a grade. Click anywhere outside the grade area to save.

Can you change the grading schema?

You can change the grad ing schema at any time and the change will show to students and in your gradebook. Add a grading rubric. Rubrics can help you evaluate student submissions based on key criteria that you define. You can create or add an existing rubric so students can view the requirements of the graded work.
