Click the Action Link to access the contextual menu then select View Grade Details. On the Grade Details page, click the Manually Override tab. In the Override Grade cell, enter a different grade. Optionally, enter Feedback to User which explains the grade change. Optionally, enter Grading Notes for yourself. Click Save.
You can change the default grade settings whenever you want. These changes apply to new courses created after the change. Existing courses don't update their settings when you change the default settings. While the Grades page in the base navigation doesn't require you to select settings, you can still make some configurations from the Admin Panel.

Override grades are grades you assign manually, for example, if you type in the grade pill in the gradebook. An override label appears next to the grade. In the grade pill, you can type a numeric value of no more than five digits.
Exempt grades You can exempt a grade from a student's record and the grade is ignored in all Grade Center calculations. The grade cell displays the Exempt icon.

An attempt grade refers to the score that a student receives for an actual attempt. An attempt grade could be a score automatically created from a test, or it could set manually, for example by an instructor viewing an Assignment submission and entering an attempt grade.
