Jan 04, 2021 · In Blackboard Learn Original courses, the “Total” column is typically set as the external grade (designated by the green check mark). It is a running total grade for a course section. We grab this running total grade from Blackboard Learn every time the learner logs into their Genius Learner Dashboard, for every course that Learner is enrolled in.
You will see a green bar at the top of the screen indicating that your file has been received and you will receive an email when it is finished processing. This email will contain the results of the import. You can also see the results by clicking the Import History link at the top. This will list all the imports ever done into your account.

If you have followed the steps in our how to submit a Blackboard assignment FAQ but you see a blue pie chart icon in the marks and feedback panel on the right of your submission, this means that your submission attempt is still in progress.
New course announcements appear immediately when you enter a course. You need to close the New Course Announcements window before you can view course content. After you close the window, it won't appear again. If your instructor posts new announcements, the window appears again with the new announcements only.
The asterisk next to a student's course grade means that there are items in the gradebook, that are included in the course grade, where grades have not yet been entered. It helps instructors know that their final grades are not yet complete because there are empty cells in the Gradebook.Oct 2, 2019

The first block of information in the course overview is the Needs Attention section. This section shows assignments with submissions ready to grade or post. You can tap an item to start grading.
Instructors can grade assignments in the Blackboard Instructor app, and can grade all other items in a web browser view of a course. Blackboard app for students on the Grades page: Students tap a graded item to see their attempts, scores, and feedback depending on the item type.
Students don't see their grades until you post them. You can post grades as you go or all at once when you've finished grading. Each time you add a grade, feedback, or inline annotation, your changes are securely synced to Blackboard Learn and all your devices.

By default, total columns in Blackboard calculate values as a “Running Total.” This means that Blackboard ignores blank cells so they are not included in the calculations. Therefore if a student actually earns a zero grade in a column, the zero must be entered because null cells (showing “–“) are not factored as zeros. Unless a 0 is inserted into the cell for a missing/non-submitted assignment, their total grade will be inflated.
Calculated columns can be useful not only for giving students a running view of their course grade (described in Calculating Final Grades), but they can be used to create subtotals or to average a specific set of columns.
The Grade Center, accessible only to instructors and TAs, is accessed in the Course Control Panel at the bottom of the left side menu. You can expand or collapse the Grade Center main menu by clicking “Grade Center” in the Control Panel.
You may wish to excuse a student from a particular graded assignment or test. Blackboard allows you to exempt a student’s grade, which means the value for that particular graded item is removed from the numerator and denominator of all calculations.
If students have taken a test multiple times, you may want to ignore or clear a previous attempt. Ignoring the attempt will discount it from the grade center. Clearing the attempt will delete it, entirely, from Blackboard.
Depending on how many attempts have been permitted per test, a Test Availability Exception may need to be implemented for an individual student, if their existing number of attempts have matched the number of permitted attempts. This is not done from the Grade Center, but rather from the test options.
