What is a blackboard learn?
Blackboard Learn is UA's web-based learning management system (LMS) that allows instructors to develop and deliver course materials online.
What is copyright protected material?
Copyright-protected materials. Current copyright law (including Fair Use Policy and the TEACH Act) allows students and instructors to post copyright-protected materials to Blackboard Learn for course-related activities without obtaining prior permission. Instructors are encouraged to accompany all copyright-protected works in Blackboard Learn with clearly identified references and indicate when materials may be subject to U.S. Copyright law and are not for further reproduction and transmission based on the copyright status. Instructors who seek to take advantage of the exemptions of the TEACH Act should make either their course or the specific copyrighted content item “unavailable” in Blackboard Learn once their use in the course has ended. Implementing both practices (marking materials as copyrighted and controlling access to online copyrighted material) is a requirement of the TEACH Act. Furthermore, all Blackboard Learn specific content is copyright Blackboard Inc.
Is UAA responsible for blackboard?
UAA is not responsible for the accuracy, integrity, and/or legality of the content uploaded to Blackboard Learn courses by its users. Users who upload material to Blackboard Learn are legally responsible for their content. Removal of inappropriate content.
Can you remove illegal content from Blackboard?
Blackboard Learn administrators or instructors will remove offensive or illegal content from a course if asked to by the instructor of record or by the department chair/director and/or dean. All instructors will be notified of the removal by the UAA Technical Support Center.
Can you delete development shells on Blackboard?
Approval is not required to delete development shells. Automated deletion of courses. Blackboard courses will remain in the system for a minimum of three years from the last day of the semester in which the course was taught (thus, a course taught in fall 2016 will only be eligible for deletion after December 2019).
Is Blackboard Learn compliant with accessibility requirements?
Federal and state accessibility requirements. Although the Blackboard Learn software program is compliant with federal and state accessibility requirements, not all uploaded content or features used (colors, themes, etc) in Blackboard Learn are compliant.
Can a university sponsor a patron account?
Patron accounts. A university sponsor can request a patron account for an individual who does not have an active UA account to access the Blackboard Learn system for a university activity. The university employee who sponsors the account requests its creation by the UAA Technical Support Center.
Where is Blackboard located?
Blackboard is a global company headquartered in the United States . We have a regional hosting strategy, but we may need to access your information from locations outside of your region and country, including in the United States and the Netherlands, for support and maintenance purposes where permitted under applicable law and our contract with your institution. We understand the importance of complying with data transfer requirements. We use approved data transfer mechanisms, such as the standard contractual clauses approved by the EU Commission ("SCCs") to ensure the adequate protection of your information when it is transferred. What is student data?
Through the provision of these products and services, we collect personally identifiable information from or about students (“ Student Data”), which may include educational records governed by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). We consider such Student Data to be strictly confidential and in general do not use such data for any purpose other than improving and providing our products and services to the educational institution or on the educational institution’s behalf. Our collection, use, and sharing of Student Data is governed by our contracts with the educational institutions, the provisions of FERPA, the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (“COPPA”), and other applicable laws that relate to the collection and use of personal information of students, but not by the provisions contained in this Privacy Statement. Can you visit Blackboard without logging in?
Website users. Blackboard has various websites for different services (for example, Blackboard Help and Blackboard Community) and geographies that are accessible to anyone. You generally can visit our websites without having to log in or otherwise identify yourself.
Who decides how personal information is used?
Your institution decides how your personal information is used. We provide most of our products and services to end-users of an institution as a so-called ‘data processor’ on behalf of our clients (for example, school, districts, universities, and corporations). This means that the main responsibility for data privacy compliance lies with your institution as the ‘data controller.’ It also means that your institution’s privacy statement governs the use of your personal information (instead of ours). Your institution determines what information we collect through our products and services and how it is used, and we process your information according to your institution’s instructions and the terms of our contracts with your institution.
Is Blackboard a US company?
Blackboard acknowledges the EU-US Privacy Shield Framework has recently been invalidated as a basis for transferring personal information under the GDPR by the European Court of Justice, and therefore we no longer rely on it for that purpose. However, Blackboard remains cert ified in order to continue to demonstrate our commitment to protect personal information transferred to Blackboard from the EEA and the UK.
