On the Course Content and Discussions pages, your group name is listed after the group discussion title. The name of your group appears when you open the discussion, along with the list of your group members. When asked to join a group for group discussions, you may see an enrollment period. You need to join a group before the deadline.

The main Discussion Board page displays a list of available discussion Forums. A Discussion Board can contain one or more Forums. A Forum is an area where a topic or a group of related topics are discussed. For each Forum, the page displays the total number of posts, the number of unread posts, and the total number of participants.
A forum can be viewed in one of two contexts: Tree View or List View. This choice remains in effect until you change it and it can be changed at any time. These choices are available at the top of the Forum page.
Within a Forum, a list of posts called Threads is displayed either in Tree View or List View. To enter a Thread to review related responses, click on the Thread name. If your instructor allows, you can create a new Thread by clicking Create Thread. To manage which Threads you see, select an option from the Display action menu.
Forums have many settings that control who can post and what other types of actions users can take, such as editing their own Threads, posting anonymously, or rating posts. Depending on which forum settings your instructor has selected, you may be allowed to create a new Thread.
After you’ve posted your initial Thread, you will most likely reply to others in your course, as you would during a regular classroom conversation. Let’s take a look at the Thread Detail page, and then we will discuss how to reply to your fellow participants and classmates.
Once you’ve accessed a forum and have entered the Thread, you can reply to anyone who has posted to that thread.
Subscribing to a discussion allows you to follow the discussion and receive notifications as set in your notification preferences. You are automatically subscribed to any discussions you reply to. When you create a discussion, you are also automatically subscribed to the discussion.
If a discussion is a group discussion, you can view the groups that have access to the discussion. To access and view the group discussion, click the group links. Group discussions only appear for students if they are a member of the group.
Threaded Discussions are discussions with replies within replies. In addition to post date, replies are shown in hierarchal order, with replies naturally indented to indicate when a student replies to another student's reply.
If you allow students to like replies in a discussion, a Like icon appears next to each reply in the discussion. Blue icons indicate replies that you've liked. The number of total likes also appears next to the icon.
When "opt in" discussion board subscription is enabled, Blackboard sends out email alerts if there are new posts or replies. The instructor decides whether the subscription email contains the entire message or a link to the message.
When a thread is added, the user should receive an email with those details. However, users are not getting these emails, whether individually or as a digest. There are currently two (2) known issues with discussion board notifications:
