Ally’s accessibility score icon is only visible when you create or edit content. You need to be in edit mode to see the score on your WYSIWYG or VTBE content.
Create or edit content in your course WYSIWYG editor. As you type or make changes, the Ally score updates immediately. Scores range from Low to Perfect. The higher the score the fewer the issues.
Ally does the same checks on WYSIWYG content as the checks on attached HTML files. Results from the checks are reported in both the instructor Course accessibility report and in the Ally Institution Report used by administrators.
It uses the most appropriate accent based on the location of the Ally deployment. For example, a user in North America would receive a North American English accent, a user in Europe would receive a British English accent and a user in Australia would receive an Australian English accent for an English document.
Accessibility is often closely connected to the quality and usability of the course materials. Example 1: Having a proper digital copy of a document instead of a scan makes the document more usable for all students.
There can be a delay before everything is moved over to the new course. When you archive a course, only references to file accessibility are available.
Auto-generated YouTube captions aren't considered to be valid captions. Any YouTube video with auto-generated captions is considered "not captioned" in the Institutional Report. Ally checks for both embedded YouTube videos and links to YouTube videos.
Alternative formats provide greater opportunity for everyone to access the information they need in the way they need or want it.
For example, your students may be prone to eye strain, or maybe they are an auditory learner. They can listen to an audio format of the content instead. Or use the HTML or ePub formats for easier reading on a mobile device.
The alternative formats created depend on the original content. If you don't see an option to download alternative formats, Ally isn’t enabled for that course or the file is not a supported content type. Select the Download Alternative Formats icon wherever you see it to download the content in a different format.
