The cause of this issue is hidden formatting code that is included when using the copy/paste feature from Microsoft Office products. This "bad HTML code" must be removed prior to pasting into Blackboard.

The best way to do this is to open up your Word file, then press (CTRL + A) on your keyboard to SELECT ALL, then (CTRL + C) to COPY the document. This makes sure all the invisible formatting code is copied. Then you can move to Blackboard, click into the area you wish to paste, then press (CTRL + V) to paste.Feb 5, 2013
If a document uses a font that is on your system, and then that document is opened on a system that doesn't have the same font, Word will substitute a different font for the missing one. Chances are that your document is set to update styles from the template upon opening. You need to change this setting. Go to the Developer tab and click on Add-Ins. If "Automatically update document styles" is checked, uncheck it.Sep 21, 2011
A Word document is always dependent for formatting on the printer driver. Make sure, under the Developer Tab to click on the Document Template button and make sure the checkbox to update styles from the template is not checked.
