While that made things easier for faculty, it meant that students kept checking the course sites for material without knowing if anything was going to be there. Many (more than half?) of the course sites go unused, so the links were deadens for the students.

The instructor has not yet published the course for student view (most common reason). The student has not yet successfully registered and paid for the course. There may be an issue with the student's enrollment. The student may have a hold on his/her record.

I feel that having to make classes AVAILABLE is a meaningless step in the process. Please make all classes available to students at least two to three weeks prior to the first day of class and give us the option to make them UNAVAILABLE.
