Locate the syllabus - this is the most important document in the course and usually found near the top of the course shell or on the left-side menu. Look for a tab or folder titled "Syllabus" or "Start Here.". Faculty can add this anywhere they choose, but these are the most logical places to find the document.
Blackboard Ally works within your Original courses to provide accessible course content in a format that works best for you. Accessible files include readable text for screen readers, pictures with captions, and easy-to-navigate content.
Your profile is the place to edit information attached to your persona. In the list where your name appears, select your name to access your profile. Your profile appears with some information, and you can’t delete your profile. Your institution decides what you can customize.
Edit Mode is a slider located near the top right of the page. This gives you the opportunity to see exactly what your students see (Edit Mode Off) when they log in.
This is the first page your students will see when they log into Blackboard and view the FIG Class Page. By default, this also serves as the Announcement Page. Any Announcements you create will appear on this page for the convenience of your students.
By clicking on the “Create Announcement” button from the main page, you are brought to the Create Announcement page. This is most often used for text and/or link comments that your students simply need to read. Information about assignments or course content will be discussed on later slides.
Time Options give you opportunity to tailor your Announcements by date. You can create a future announcement that will not appear to students until a certain date and remove itself from view at a certain time as well. These options are available for all Announcements, Assignments and other items you post on Blackboard.
By clicking on the Syllabus button on the left list you are brought to the Syllabus page.
By clicking on the Instructor Info button on the left list you are brought to the Contacts page. This is the best place to post the contact information for both you and your CoFac. (be sure to double check with your CoFac to see what is the most appropriate way for students to contact them if necessary).
By clicking on the Course Content button on the left list you are brought to the Course Content page. This is a good place to post anything that does not fit as an Announcement or an Assignment. Many professors post their class notes, web links and other useful files on this page.
Students that have registered for a course must follow the automated process that is in place unless a technical issue prevents the student from being loaded into the course. Add/drops occur frequently during the semester.
Adding users with instructor or support roles is done via the Blackboard Request System. Only the instructor of the course or a Bb administrator can request/add a TA or co-instructor. The requester must select one of four roles for the user:
A student being requested to be added to a course for completing a course of study must have an "I" (incomplete) in the student record. Once added the student will have access to the Blackboard course for the duration of the semester.
Approval to audit, or visit, a course is sometimes granted to qualified students by the dean of the college in which the course is offered. Such approval conveys only the privilege of observing and does not include submitting papers, taking tests, or participating in laboratories or field work.
