Turnitin is an internet-based plagiarism-detection service. Essays are submitted to Turnitin website, which checks the documents originality. The results can be used to detect plagiarism or in formative exercises help students learn how to avoid plagiarism and improve their writing.
Using Turnitin with Blackboard Ultra. Your Turnitin license is designed around empowering your organization to take control of plagiarism. You have access to an intuitive Similarity Report, providing text matches and an indicative similarity score.
After logging into Blackboard, select the Courses tab from the menu at the top of the page. Select a course from the Course List. Select Course Tools from the left-hand Course Management navigation. From the Course Tools drop-down menu, select Turnitin Assignments.

To submit a paper to an assignment on Turnitin, the user must log in and upload a file to an existing assignment. Assignments in Turnitin cannot accept student submissions until the assignment start date and time has passed. Assignments may also reject submissions after the due date and time set by the instructor.
Each time you create a Blackboard Basic assignment, a class is created within Turnitin with an end date set to a fixed point in the future. This is automatically done so older students are not counted against your account's student limit.

To answer your previous question: yes, Turnitin can definitely detect copy and paste. If your paper has content copied from elsewhere that was not properly referenced, Turnitin will find it. It's like a really smart detective that can catch anyone cheating in the act.
Turnitin will not accept PDF image files, forms, or portfolios, files that do not contain highlightable text (e.g. a scanned file - usually an image), documents containing multiple files or files created with software other than Adobe Acrobat®.

So how much does turnitin cost? On the University's website, Turnitin is listed as $3 per student annually. The price for other similar plagiarism checkers varies across the board. For instance, big competitor UniCheck starts at $5 and alternative competitor Copyscape at $10.
As a student, you cannot use Turnitin for free. Turnitin only makes its plagiarism prevention software available to universities and other institutions. An excellent alternative to Turnitin is Scribbr's plagiarism checker for students.
