That is certainly true Rick, and the issue is that we don't know what we don't know. All the book learning in the world might prepare you for a particular scenario, but when it comes to the crunch, there is always several factors that the theory doesn't cover. Engineers are excellent for saying "Oh, we didn't think of that." (Apologies to all the engineers out there, but you can't think of everything, just not possible.) Making mistakes is part of what we do, not learning from them is also part of what we do too and we certainly don't learn from other people's mistakes. We are all too often lulled into a false sense of security, we think we got a handle on it, only to find that we really didn't, but we make decisions based on what we know. Unfortunately, too many school and college administrators seem not to understand this so often blunder into decisions without really understanding what they are missing out on.
