The Blackboard Instructor app helps you easily identify courses where you need to grade student submissions. Instructors and graders can review, annotate, grade, and publish the grades to students.
The first block of information in the course overview is the Needs Attention section. This section shows assignments with submissions ready to grade or post. You can tap an item to start grading.
Students don't see their grades until you post them. You can post grades as you go or all at once when you've finished grading. Each time you add a grade, feedback, or inline annotation, your changes are securely synced to Blackboard Learn and all your devices.
Instructors can grade assignments in the Blackboard Instructor app, and can grade all other items in a web browser view of a course. Blackboard app for students on the Grades page: Students tap a graded item to see their attempts, scores, and feedback depending on the item type.

The main Discussion Board page displays a list of available discussion Forums. A Discussion Board can contain one or more Forums. A Forum is an area where a topic or a group of related topics are discussed. For each Forum, the page displays the total number of posts, the number of unread posts, and the total number of participants.
A forum can be viewed in one of two contexts: Tree View or List View. This choice remains in effect until you change it and it can be changed at any time. These choices are available at the top of the Forum page.
Within a Forum, a list of posts called Threads is displayed either in Tree View or List View. To enter a Thread to review related responses, click on the Thread name. If your instructor allows, you can create a new Thread by clicking Create Thread. To manage which Threads you see, select an option from the Display action menu.
Forums have many settings that control who can post and what other types of actions users can take, such as editing their own Threads, posting anonymously, or rating posts. Depending on which forum settings your instructor has selected, you may be allowed to create a new Thread.
After you’ve posted your initial Thread, you will most likely reply to others in your course, as you would during a regular classroom conversation. Let’s take a look at the Thread Detail page, and then we will discuss how to reply to your fellow participants and classmates.
Once you’ve accessed a forum and have entered the Thread, you can reply to anyone who has posted to that thread.
The attendance feature is available in regions where Blackboard has AWS data centers, with the exception of the GovCloud and China regions. Clients—in a region where SaaS is available—have access to attendance, whether or not they’re on SaaS.
Institutions may need to prove “seat time” for federal funding or accreditation. Many institutions and instructors use attendance as they focus on student retention. The attendance feature is available for both the Ultra and Original Course Views.
Many instructors use attendance data as part of their students' overall grades. Also, some institutions and programs have attendance policies that require instructors to track the number of class meetings students have missed.
Blackboard Learn instructors can host a Collaborate session without tracking attendance manually. Based on criteria you and your instructors can set, Collaborate tracks if a student is present, late, or absent from a session.
Blackboard bold is a typeface style that is often used for certain symbols in mathematical texts, in which certain lines of the symbol (usually vertical or near-vertical lines) are doubled.
Serge Lang also used boldface instead of blackboard bold in his highly influential Algebra. The Chicago Manual of Style evolved over this issue. In 1993, for the 14th edition, it advised that "blackboard bold should be confined to the classroom" (13.14).
In some texts, these symbols are simply shown in bold type. Blackboard bold in fact originated from the attempt to write bold letters on blackboards in a way that clearly differentiated them from non-bold letters (by using the edge rather than the point of a chalk). It then made its way back into print form as a separate style from ordinary bold, possibly starting with the original 1965 edition of Gunning and Rossi's textbook on complex analysis.
