Blackboard. Blackboard is a learning management system used by Western Technical College to support face-to-face classes, blended courses, and online instruction. If you are new to Blackboard, there are a variety of handouts and instructional materials available on this web site.
Student performance may be monitored in a number of ways, including the use of grade center color codes, Performance Dashboard, and the Retention Center. Also included in this section is a tutorial on reporting options.
Blackboard offers instructors a variety of course management tools–tools that will allow instructors to customize their course sites, control availability of the course, create work groups, and more. Specifically, this includes setting up your course and setting course availability; enrollment; import, export, or archiving courses; combining sections; groups; and learning modules.
Western’s Information Technology Services has a Knowledge Base website to provide answers to common computer-related questions and issues. Please go to https://kb.westerntc.edu to check out the help documents that are available.
There are computers available on the La Crosse campus for students to work on their assignments. After an extensive process of review by faculty, students, and staff, Canvas by Instructure has been chosen as our next Learning Management System. Canvas provides a superior user experience for faculty, staff, and students, as well as mobile capabilities and simplicity of integration and management that competitors are unable to match.
Things tend to get a bit busy just before the start of the semester and as hard as it is for the LMS Team to believe, sometimes Canvas isn’t your top priority. The CFC has a created a checklist to help remind you of those Canvas tasks that are important – even if you only have to worry about them once a semester.
