What is a journal in college?

Journals are self-reflective spaces where students post thoughts or experiences on course topics and get one-on-one conversations with the instructor. While it can be shared with other students, it is private by default. The private nature of journals offers students a safe environment to express themselves and receive individualized feedback. For example, a journal that only the individual student and instructor can access can be used as a way for students to reflect on sensitive topics in a less public way.

What is wikis used for?

Wikis allow students to view, contribute, and edit content of course-related material in a collaborative area.#N#Wikis can be used for many-to-many communication, typically for collaborative projects. For example, ask a group of students to create a paper that explains a theory that was discussed in your course.

Blackboard Ultra Upgrade

On December 14th, WKU Blackboard will transition to Blackboard Ultra Base Navigation featuring many improvements to user experience and navigability within Blackboard.

Faculty Accounts

Faculty can activate accounts on the system by attending an initial face-to-face or online training workshop that covers the basics of using Blackboard. To register for a Blackboard workshop, go to the ITS Training Site and select the appropriate training.

Accessing the Grade Center

Scroll down to your Course Management area in the specific Blackboard course site.

Tip 1

Grade and provide feedback within a reasonable time period (e.g., ideally 3-5 days after submission).

Utilize Blackboard rubrics and feedback when grading. Rubrics ensure consistent and impartial grading while helping students focus on your expectations.

What is English 200?

Welcome to English 200, another intensiv e course in college-level writing, reading, and critical thinking. My hope is that you will find the course academically challenging, intellectually interesting, and personally satisfying. In this course you will continue the inquiry, critical thinking, and writing that will assure your success at WKU. Moreover, I hope that you will establish some good friendships in this class as you share ideas, work with each other in groups, and come to value the intellectual life as a conversation of differing views about interesting and significant problems. You will learn how to understand and (perhaps) even enjoy literature. You will discover how to critically evaluate literature, a process that can help you enjoy the text more fully. The key to success is participation. Shape the class to suit your needs by contributing something of yourself each day. You are welcome to suggest topics and materials for assignments and discussions.

Is plagiarism tolerated in college?

Plagiarism will not be tolerated. If a student in this class is suspected of cheating, plagiarism or any act of academic dishonesty, they are subject to the following disciplinary actions, under the discretion of the instructor: grade penalty will be applied up to course failure.

What is recycled writing?

Recycled writing means reusing an essay written in a previously or simultaneously taken course (this includes high school essays). All assignments turned in for this course must be original to our ENG 200 course. If I find out you have submitted a recycled assignment, you will receive a zero for the assignment’s grade and will need to draft an original essay to fulfill the minimum requirements of the course (see minimum course requirements section)
