Your course access generally begins five days before its official start date. Access also requires your professor to turn on student access for the course.
Critical need for LMS use: Bandwidth. ×. Bandwidth. Critical requirement for off-campus access to resources - adequate internet bandwidth: In addition to an up-to-date computer, you must have adequate internet access to use the University's resources remotely. Your internet service rate (bandwidth) should be at least six megabits per second (6Mbps).
Provide students some flexibility in timing. While you might allow students 10 minutes for a quiz at the beginning of a face-to-face class, that may be too restrictive online. Set a time limit for the quiz and give an availability of 30 minutes, for example.
General information: Any class may have online resources and tools associated with it through the University's learning management system (LMS) services. Resources can range from a syllabus for a face-to-face course up to all resources needed for a course being taught entirely online.
Your internet service rate (bandwidth) should be at least six megabits per second (6Mbps). You'll have a more responsive (faster) experience if you have a higher-bandwidth connection. www.speedtest.net will report the speed of your internet connection.
Share your screen for PowerPoint or other computer-based items during your lecture. Instead of giving your students a PowerPoint and a separate lecture recording, combine them. It will be much easier for your students to associate your lecture with the slides, and it mimics the classroom in a much better way.
Rural areas may not have broadband or DSL service. Cellular internet access can be adequate if you have sufficient 4G LTE (or higher) reception in your area. However, viewing video may cause you to exceed your monthly data limit and require you to pay additional costs. Check your data usage frequently.
An introduction on how to use Blackboard Learn by Andy Jaffrey from the Office for Digital Learning.
The University has a support wiki containing a range of pages regarding use of Blackboard Learn, such as start of term tips, how to tune your web browser for full Blackboard functionality and content issues. The wiki is a useful place to start for any queries or issues you may have.
