What are students responsible for?

Students are responsible for having access to a properly functioning computer. The computer must be able to run the required browser and software or capable of connecting to UT's Virtual Computer Lab. Students must have an Internet Service Provider unless using a public computer with such access.

What is a VLab?

UT's Virtual Computer Lab (VLab) is accessible from your computer and may have all the software you need. On-campus computer labs —. Capable of accommodating most online courses, open labs are all equipped the same. Students should check their department lab information with that department.

Do you need high speed internet for a course?

High-speed Internet access is recommended. Some courses may contain streaming audio and/or video content. Student computers need to be capable of running the latest versions of browsers, plug-ins, recent software and have the necessary tools to be kept free of viruses and spyware.

What is a blackboard?

Blackboard is our online course management system, it functions as your virtual classroom. To verify that the computer you are currently using is compatible with Blackboard, please visit our Browser Requirement Check and follow instructions there.

What browser do you use for blackboard?

When taking tests in Blackboard, it is recommended to use either Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome as your web browser. Please read our Test Taking Tips for more information.

What is a lockdown browser?

Respondus LockDown Browser is a secure browser for taking quizzes and exams in Blackboard. If your course requires the use of Respondus LockDown browser, you will not able to take a quiz or exam with a standard web browser. Respondus LockDown Browser should only be used for taking Blackboard quizzes or exams.

What is the end user runtime?

DirectX includes security and performance updates, along with many new features across all technologies.

How long is a real free player?

The Real Free Player lets you make stories up to 30 seconds long with basic story customization features with up to 10 tracks of music, plus the ability to download Web videos, convert file formats, trim videos, and burn music CDs. More features are available for purchase.

Can Chromebooks be used for learning?

Please note, Chromebooks are not compatible with learning software and should not be used.

Is QuickTime 7 supported by Apple?

QuickTime 7 for Windows is no longer supported by Apple. QuickTime is Apple's multiplatform, multimedia technology for handling video, sound, animation, graphics, text, interactivity, and music and supports most major video, audio, and graphics file formats.

What is Flash Player?

Flash Player is a highly expressive cross-platform runtime that works consistently across browsers. Flash Player delivers innovation within the browser. Note: you may want to UNCHECK the "optional offer" boxes, these are not required to run Flash, ® and may cause issues within Blackboard.

What is Java software?

Java software for your computer, or the Java Runtime Environment, is also referred to as the Java Runtime, Runtime Environment, Runtime, JRE, Java Virtual Machine, Virtual Machine, Java VM, JVM, VM, Java plug-in, Java plugin, Java add-on or Java download.
