The cause of this issue is hidden formatting code that is included when using the copy/paste feature from Microsoft Office products. This "bad HTML code" must be removed prior to pasting into Blackboard.
In the Tools menu, click Chat and click Increase Font Size or Decrease Font Size. In the Chat Options menu, click Increase Font Size or Decrease Font Size.

When the text you enter into Blackboard has extra space, has funny characters, or looks goofy in some other way, this usually happens when you cut and paste from a Word document or from the web.

To remove the Word formatting after you paste the text in the editor, select all the text and select the Remove Formatting icon.
