It is a dynamic and interactive tool, allowing you to record data, calculate grades and monitor student progress. You can generate reports to communicate information to parents, administrators and other stakeholders. You can determine which assigned grades to show to your students in My Grades, including columns displaying performance results.
Before using Blackboard in your courses, you should attend a Blackboard training class with the Center for Learning and Teaching (CLT). While many aspects of Blackboard are intuitive, it is important to be prepared for the variety of situations you may encounter in the classroom.
Respondus is a tool for creating and managing exams that can be printed to paper or published directly to Blackboard. Respondus locks down the testing environment within Blackboard. When an assessment is started, students are locked into it and are unable to print, copy, go to another URL or access other applications until they submit their exam for grading.
This means that if a student accidentally closes their browser, or loses their connection to the test, they cannot continue with the exam until the instructor intervenes and resets the exam.
A discussion board forum is an area where participants discuss a topic or a group of related topics. Within each forum, users can create multiple threads. A thread includes the initial post and all replies to it. You can create forums and threads to organize discussions into units or topics relevant to your course.
A blog (short for web log) is a personal online journal that is frequently updated and intended for general public access and use. Instructors create and manage blogs in Blackboard, and only enrolled users can view and create entries and comments in them.
Organization sites allow administrative departments or other units to provide training to the university community for non-university credit. Organizational leaders can add or remove students on demand and manage course delivery outside of a semester's time constraints.

Need to host or attend a meeting from off-campus? Zoom is a cloud-based web conferencing service that allows users to meet and share content online. Start or join a meeting from anywhere with an internet connection.
With Zoom's Blackboard integration, instructors can schedule, start and manage meetings directly from Blackboard. Students can join meetings and access cloud recordings from within the course as well.
When faculty use ODU's Course Collaboration Tool to set up Zoom meetings, Microsoft Teams or shared Google Drives for their courses, students enrolled in those courses can access the collaboration tools from within the myODU portal or from within the course in Blackboard.

Conduct a Zoom test run before your class: create a trial meeting with a classmate or a friend, and test all the different options – join a meeting, share your screen, mute your mic, etc. Make sure that your computer battery is full or that your computer is connected to the charger.
TakeLessons: TakeLessons offers free resources and articles for students looking to improve their math, writing skills, and languages. On top of educational articles, TakeLessons also has interesting blog posts on education tools, student/teaching tips, and resource lists.

With this change, we believe the higher level of monitoring and support directly from Blackboard will result in improved service and performance levels for the ODU Blackboard Learn environment. In addition, the hosted service will enhance the Disaster Recovery plan for this critical environment.
This change will require up to a 72-hour outage with no access to Blackboard from May 15 - May 17. All your courses will be moved for you. This includes all the courses in the current Blackboard environment to include, but not limited to: current Spring semester, Summer Courses, and Fall, 2014 courses.
All grades are officially reported in Leo Online. The University deadline for reporting spring grades is 5 p.m., Tuesday, May 13. If you have not accessed your grade information in Blackboard before system access is no longer available, you may not be able to report your spring grades by the deadline.
You must access and/or download grade information to be posted in LEO Online by the grade deadline, 5 p.m., Tuesday, May 13.
Students will be unable to access Blackboard between May 15 and May 17; students will not notice any other changes.
There will be no changes to the Blackboard interface. Support material will remain the same and can be accessed at: http://www.odu.edu/ts/software-services/blackboard
First, you'll complete the ODU Online Orientation, then you'll meet with your student success director and register for classes.
You will be automatically enrolled in the ODU Online New Student Orientation within 24 hours of accepting your admission and activating your MIDAS and student email accounts.
The orientation consists of three modules full of tips, resources, and need-to-know policies.

Blackboard. Blackboard is ODU's learning management system. Your instructors may use Blackboard to deliver course content, host discussion forums, and administer exams. It's compatible with Windows and Mac, and Blackboard mobile apps are available. Get an online guide to Blackboard or view training videos.
Webex is compatible with Windows, Mac, and most mobile devices. Apps are available for Apple iOS, Android, and Windows tablets and phones. ODU also offers Zoom, an online meeting tool that you can use for group work, study sessions, or meetings with your professor.
