What is the grade center in Blackboard?

It is a dynamic and interactive tool, allowing you to record data, calculate grades and monitor student progress. You can generate reports to communicate information to parents, administrators and other stakeholders. Getting Started

Access Blackboard at https://www.blackboard.odu.edu and log in with your MIDAS ID and password.

Zoom

Need to host or attend a meeting from off-campus? Zoom is a cloud-based web conferencing service that allows users to meet and share content online. Start or join a meeting from anywhere with an internet connection.

Using Zoom in Blackboard

With Zoom's Blackboard integration, instructors can schedule, start and manage meetings directly from Blackboard. Students can join meetings and access cloud recordings from within the course as well.

Access Course Collaboration Tools

When faculty use ODU's Course Collaboration Tool to set up Zoom meetings, Microsoft Teams or shared Google Drives for their courses, students enrolled in those courses can access the collaboration tools from within the myODU portal or from within the course in Blackboard.

How to test zoom before class?

Conduct a Zoom test run before your class: create a trial meeting with a classmate or a friend, and test all the different options – join a meeting, share your screen, mute your mic, etc. Make sure that your computer battery is full or that your computer is connected to the charger.

What is TakeLessons free?

TakeLessons: TakeLessons offers free resources and articles for students looking to improve their math, writing skills, and languages. On top of educational articles, TakeLessons also has interesting blog posts on education tools, student/teaching tips, and resource lists.

Does Sprint have hot spots?

Why are we making this change?

With this change, we believe the higher level of monitoring and support directly from Blackboard will result in improved service and performance levels for the ODU Blackboard Learn environment. In addition, the hosted service will enhance the Disaster Recovery plan for this critical environment.

How will this affect me?

This change will require up to a 72-hour outage with no access to Blackboard from May 15 - May 17. All your courses will be moved for you. This includes all the courses in the current Blackboard environment to include, but not limited to: current Spring semester, Summer Courses, and Fall, 2014 courses.

What about Spring grades?

All grades are officially reported in Leo Online. The University deadline for reporting spring grades is 5 p.m., Tuesday, May 13. If you have not accessed your grade information in Blackboard before system access is no longer available, you may not be able to report your spring grades by the deadline.

What do I need to do?

You must access and/or download grade information to be posted in LEO Online by the grade deadline, 5 p.m., Tuesday, May 13.

How will my students be affected?

Students will be unable to access Blackboard between May 15 and May 17; students will not notice any other changes.

Will any training be provided?

There will be no changes to the Blackboard interface. Support material will remain the same and can be accessed at: http://www.odu.edu/ts/software-services/blackboard

First, you'll complete the ODU Online Orientation, then you'll meet with your student success director and register for classes.
