New York City students need exceptional teachers who deliver effective instruction in order to be well prepared for college and career. Because great teachers are the key to student success, our program is highly selective.
You will receive a pre-service training stipend of $2500 dollars, untaxed. This stipend will be distributed in increments (totaling $2500) over the course of training. Please note that NYCTF does not provide housing, health insurance, or transportation benefits during pre-service training.

A teaching fellow carries out the teaching and administrative duties that a lecturer would undertake, without necessarily carrying out research (although Teaching Fellows can undertake research as well). Experience of teaching and supervising students is usually key to securing a post.
With a cohort of Fellows, you'll learn and practice essential classroom techniques to prepare for your first day of teaching. Next, you'll work in a real NYC classroom, where you'll practice how to set a vision for student success, build a student-centered classroom, and support student learning and growth.
While 2023 program tuition costs are not yet finalized, we anticipate they will be similar to 2022 costs: $10,500 for the Bronx Cohort and $12,000 for the Citywide Cohort.

A fellowship provides financial support to graduate students to pursue graduate studies without associated teaching or research responsibilities (as they are in a teaching or research assistantship). Fellowships are generally merit-based internal or external awards to support a student in a full-time course of study.
In the UK and Ireland, teaching fellows are typically full members of academic staff who are involved in teaching. Teaching fellows can undertake the full range of teaching, pastoral and administrative duties, and can also be involved in research activity, specifically pedagogic research.
Since Teaching Fellows are not typically required to publish works related to their field knowledge, holding a PhD in the field is advantageous but not required.
Qualifications and Experience Research Fellows at Grade 7 and above must hold a PhD. In exceptional circumstances, where the applicant can demonstrate extensive research experience over several years, they may be appointed without a PhD.
3.4 The teacher should have at least 3 years of teaching experience on the date of submitting the application for award of teacher fellowship. 3.5 The teacher who did not avail any teacher fellowship from UGC or any other agencies may be given preference. 3.6 A Teacher Fellow will register for the M. Phil.
