The NSLS is accredited through Cognia, which is recognized as a reliable authority concerning the quality of education or training offered by the institutions of higher education or higher education programs.
NSLS membership is by invitation only; invitations are mailed to eligible NLU students twice per academic year, during early fall and early winter. Eligibility is based on GPA and credit hours criteria: Undergraduate students need at least 36 completed credit hours AND a GPA of at least 3.2 be invited.
The NSLS is the nation's largest leadership honor society. Students are selected by their college for membership based on either academic standing or leadership potential. Candidacy is a nationally recognized achievement of honorable distinction.

To become inducted into the NSLS, a student must first be nominated by their school. If their campus does not have an NSLS chapter they can self-nominate through the website. The courses offered by NSLS have been recommended for some credits in colleges and universities by the NCCRS, and ACE. NSLS has been certified as a B. Corp, and it maintains an A+ as a registered member of the Better Business Bureau. The organization works closely with great leaders within and outside of the country.
