In addition, Blackboard Analytics uses the External Grade as the base for student success in the course. The default External Grade column is Total, which is used for point based calculations.
To override a grade, select the grade cell in a student's Overall Grade column. Type a new value or select an option. You can override the grade with a grade notation. An override is useful if a student can't complete the course or otherwise doesn't meet requirements for completion. Grade notations can include Incomplete, Withdrawal, and so on

One column must always be marked as the External Grade, and it can not be deleted. If you need to delete this column, you need to set another column as the External Grade.
Here's how: Click on the arrow by the Weighted Total column and select the option “Set As External Grade.” You should now see that weird green checkmark next to the Weighted Total column. Click on the arrow by the Total Column and now you should be able to select “Delete Column.”May 23, 2021
To set the external grade, open a column's menu and select Set as External Grade. The External Grade icon appears in the column header you chose and no icon appears in the default total column header. If you copy or restore a course, the external grade column you chose remains as the external grade column.

Grade columns do not have any associated materials within the course, therefore students cannot make submissions. Due dates cannot be assigned to grade columns.
If you have submitted an assignment and you don't see a grade, that means the instructor has probably not graded the assignment yet. The yellow exclamation point icon means that the assignment still needs grading.Dec 1, 2015

Click anywhere in a cell to access the management functions or assign a grade. Select the cell or grade value to edit an existing grade or add a new entry. After you assign a value, click anywhere outside the grade area to save. View submissions.

If you enter “0” as a value for points possible and enter the grade as the grade will display as entered, formatted as a number with two decimal places. If you enter a grade as a percentage it will display as entered without the % sign.
The name cannot be longer than 15 characters.
