Item analysis provides statistics on overall test performance and individual test questions. This data can help instructors recognize questions that might be poor discriminators of student performance. You can use this information to improve questions for future tests or to adjust credit on current attempts.
Note: The question statistics table provides item analysis statistics for each question in the test. Questions that are recommended for your review are indicated with red circles so that you can quickly scan for questions that might need revision.
1. Access your course’s Control Panel and click on Course Tools to expand this part of the menu.
4. Hover your mouse pointer over a test and click on the action button that appears beside it.
7. After a short wait you will be notified that the analysis has been produced and you may view it by clicking on the link under the Available Analysis heading.
8. The first section provides a summary of how many questions there were, attempts made, and the average score.

On the next screen, select the test you wish to run a report for from the dropdown menu and click the Run button. After a few moments, Blackboard will generate the item analysis report.
After running the report, the bottom of the screen will now show an image similar to the one above, with the label "Available Analysis" and the name of the exam and the date of when the analysis was run. Click on the exam name and date to view the report.
After clicking on a question, instructors can see details related to that specific question, such as the overall statistics, and how each quartile performed on that question.
Item Analysis provides statistics on overall test performance and on individual test questions. These data help faculty recognize questions that might not adequately discriminate between students who understand the material and those who do not.
You can run item analyses on tests that include single or multiple attempts, question sets, random blocks, auto-graded question types, and questions that need manual grading. For tests with manually graded questions that have not yet been assigned scores, statistics are generated only for the scored questions.

You can filter the questions table by question type, discrimination category, and difficulty category.
You can investigate a specific test question by accessing its Question Details page. This page displays student performance on the individual test question you selected.
A Fill in the Blank question consists of a phrase, sentence, or paragraph with a blank space where a student provides the missing word or words. The maximum number of answers you can provide for a blank is 100. Use Fill in Multiple Blanks questions to create a question with multiple answers.
