When used with Blackboard Learn, WebDAV is a means for users to add to and access content in Course Files or the Content Collection , as if it were any other network drive or folder on their computers. Students can't upload files to Course Files.
Configure WebDAV for web folders or shared locations. On the Web Folder Settings page, select Yes to make web folders or shared locations available to users . When No is selected, all WebDAV requests are denied. Configure the settings as appropriate.
Using persistent cookies increases the usability of WebDAV because users are not asked to authenticate multiple times. However, this is a heightened security risk if users forget to explicitly select the Logout button to end their session, the session will remain open even when the browser is closed, thus increasing the risk of unauthorized access. This is a higher risk when organizations use shared computers, such as computers in a computer lab. As a mitigating control, organizations can consider adopting a browser policy for removing all cookies when browsers are closed.
To access the course content collection, go to the Blackboard Control Panel:
You will now see a screen labeled Course Content. On this page, click on the button labeled Set Up Shared Location.
You will then see a screen that is labeled Using Shared Locations with information on how to set up shared locations for your current operating system.
You can create a collection of files or an entire lesson, including cascading style sheets (CSS), zip it into a package, and upload it into Course Files from your computer.
You may want to keep a compressed folder intact when you upload it to your course. For example, if you want to include several images for students to use in a presentation.
In Course Files, use the Overwrite File function in a file's menu to browse for the edited file on your computer. The system overwrites the existing file in Course Files with the same name, even if the file from your computer has a different name. If the file is linked in your course, the link remains intact and the edits appear.
To perform a quick search of Course Files, expand the Files section of the Control Panel. Type a keyword or text string in the box and select Go. Searches are not case sensitive. Results appear on the Search Content page. The search produces files and folders in the specific course, not from across courses.
