To avoid the formatting issues, you can remove the formatting and reformat it with the options in the editor. To remove the Word formatting after you paste the text in the editor, select all the text and select the Remove Formatting icon. Only use this option if you understand that all formatting will be removed.
This can be done by clicking on the ellipses icon […], or by clicking on ALT+F10 (PC) or ALT+FN+F10 (Mac). Once any formatting has been removed, the buttons in Blackboard's text editor can be used to underline, italicize, edit font style, add bullets and numbering, or otherwise change the appearance of the text.
Go to Courses on the Admin Panel and search for the course you want to edit. In the list of results in the Course View column, you can see the view for each course. In the course's menu, select Edit, and then choose the course view. A course must be unavailable to change the course view option.

You can revert your course to Old Blackboard if you are unhappy with the conversion. To revert the course, click "Back to Original Course" at the bottom of the page. If you are happy, choose "Use the Ultra Course" button. Once you choose to use the Ultra course, you can't "go back" to Old Blackboard with this course.
After your institution enables the Ultra experience, you can start the Ultra preview at any time from your Original Course View. Select the Experience the new Learn icon in the top-right corner of the page. In the pop-up window, start the conversion to the Ultra Course View.
The Ultra Course View is cleaner with a more modern design and easy-to-use workflows. It also has powerful new tools that are not available in the Original Course View, like Discussion Analytics. There are some features of the Original Course View that are not available in the Ultra Course View, however.
