Troubleshooting 101

In this article, we’ll show you how to use SCORM Cloud to test your project, from zipping your content to verifying tracking. You can watch this screencast, which sums it all up, or simply follow the steps detailed below:

Step 1: Zip Your Content

First, publish your course for LMS, then click the ZIP button on the publish success window. This creates a zipped file of the published output in the same location where you published your course. You’ll need this zipped file for SCORM Cloud. (If you’re testing AICC content, see this article for special instructions .)

Step 2: Upload Your Published Output

Log in to SCORM Cloud, then click Choose File or Browse (depending on your browser). Browse to your zip file and click Open. SCORM Cloud will upload your course and take you to the course home page.

Step 3: Create an Invitation

It’s possible to launch your course directly from the course home page, but doing so won’t mimic a true learner experience and results won’t show in LMS reports. For this reason, we recommend clicking Invite, followed by Create Invitation. This will generate an unguessable URL that you can use yourself or share with others.

Step 4: Test Your Course

Launch your invitation URL in a new browser window. If prompted, enter your email address and name. Your results will be tracked under these credentials.

Step 5: Verify Tracking

Now that you’ve tested your course as a learner would experience it, you can review the SCORM Cloud reports for accuracy. To do so, return to the course details page, click Reportage, then drill down into the available reporting data.

What is the primary goal of SCORM?

The answer is all of them. The primary goal of adopting SCORM is to create an interoperable system that will work well with other systems. Support for all of the SCORM versions and AICC is essential to fulfilling that goal. To date, there are three released versions of SCORM, each building on top of the prior one.

What is a SCORM?

SCORM stands for “Sharable Content Object Reference Model”. “Sharable Content Object” indicates that SCORM is all about creating units of online training material that can be shared across systems. SCORM defines how to create “sharable content objects” or “SCOs” that can be reused in different systems and contexts.

What is AICC in aviation?

What is a SCORM conformant LMS?

A SCORM conformant LMS is required to implement an API consisting of 8 Functions (see Section 3.3 of the SCORM Run-Time Environment document for full specification ) that content may access to communicate with the LMS.

What is a SCO?

A SCO is a collection of one or more assets that represents a logical unit of learning. The definition of a SCO is deliberately vague, it can be defined as a single web page or as an enormous and complex web-based training module containing hundreds of pages and hundreds more images and other assets.

What is an API adapter?

Which reporting option should I choose?

When you export a Rise 360 course, you get to choose one of these reporting options:

Does it matter which LMS standard I choose?

Rise 360 supports AICC, SCORM 1.2, SCORM 2004, and xAPI (Tin Can API) standards. You can choose any of these to track both completion and success in your LMS. However, each LMS can interpret statuses differently, and some standards are better at producing consistent results.

Summary

To sum it all up, this table lists the best combinations of LMS standards and reporting options for recording completion and success statuses in your LMS.
