Locate the Weighted Total column in the Grade Center. Click the Action Link (drop-down arrow) in the column heading, then select Edit Column Information from the menu. If you do not have a Weighted Total column, create one by clicking Create Calculated Column > Weighted Total. Required: Fill in the column name.

A grade category has its own aggregated grade which is calculated from its grade items. There is no limit to the level of nesting of categories (a category may belong to another category). However, each grade item may belong to only one category.Sep 10, 2016
A category consists of one or more grade items. If you use a weighted grading system with percentages, you must use Categories to identify each weighted area.

Click anywhere in a cell to access the management functions or assign a grade. Select the cell or grade value to edit an existing grade or add a new entry. After you assign a value, click anywhere outside the grade area to save. View submissions.
In the gradebook list view, press the Move icon in the row of the item you want to move. Drag the item to the new location and release. The order you choose also appears in the grid view and on students' Grades pages. You can't move items in the grid view at this time.
You can use course group smart views in two ways: Students use the groups to collaborate with other students and complete group assignments. You create smart views to track their progress. You create a group to track a set of students who aren't performing well on assignments and tests.
In the Control Panel, expand “Grade Center” then click on “Full Grade Center”.
In the Grade Center, after you click on “Manage” and then “Categories, you may have noticed that you have all your categories listed. This includes pre-made categories as well as any you have created. You can simplify things by deleting unwanted Categories.
To place an individual item in a category, click on the drop-down menu in the column header (the downfacing arrows) then click Edit Column Information
Within area 1. Column Information, choose a category for that grade column.
Check the box next to all the items you want to place in the same category
One to the most useful features of categories is that you can make a column to calculate a Weighted Total using categories. This will be described separately.
