The average column displays the average for a selected number of columns. For example, you can display the average for all tests or display the average grade for each student for a grading period.

In the Submission panel, you can see which attempts have grades and feedback. Select the attempt you want to view. Your submission opens, and you can view your grade and how it was calculated. You can review your work and expand the Feedback panel if your instructor left comments.

The most common reason grades don’t match expectations is that there is a mis-match between how Blackboard performs calculations and how an instructor/student thinks the calculation should be performed.
Averages can be equal or weighted. And weighted columns can have weights on categories (which can be averaged equally or proportionally). Often, we see calculations that are identified as an average but it’s unclear whether the intent is a weighted average or equal average.
Weighted columns in Blackboard allow you several options not available with the simple average column. First, you can have columns with different possible points weighted based on the points possible (proportional weighting). Second, if you use categories, you can drop grades or base grades on category weights.

The section labeled Feedback and Notes for Attempt provides a space for the instructor or grader to enter comments to the student, as well as notes for the instructor that are not released to the student.
Students cannot access unpublished assignments, so if the student in question has indeed taken quizzes and submitted to assignments, and has grades for them, not only are the assignments published, they cannot be unpublished. So that's not the issue.
The default is that everything is unmuted in your gradebook when you first create your assignments. Things would only be muted if you manually muted them one by one. So, unless you muted them or if you go to your gradebook and see the little muted icon for every assignment, that's not your problem.
