There are multiple ways to add video in Blackboard along with multiple sources of video content, whether you want to make your own videos, use videos from the Internet, or digitize a VHS or DVD . The four main sources of video typically used at UToledo and covered in this article are: 1 YouTube and other Internet-hosted videos 2 Echo360 lecture capture videos 3 Wowza Media Server videos (produced or remastered by UToledo Online's multimedia services) 4 MediaSite lecture videos (UToledo College of Business and Innovation only)
MediaSite is the lecture capture used by the College of Business and Innovation (CoBI ) at UToledo. While it works very similarly to Echo360, use of this service requires login credentials for both faculty and students and is administratively supported by CoBI. If you are CoBI faculty and wish to integrate MediaSite videos in your Blackboard course, please see the training videos in MediaSite (login required), the training materials on the CoBI website, or your department chair.
Echo360 is the primary personal and classroom lecture capture software at The University of Toledo. This video will only review how to add an Echo link to your Blackboard course or embed Echo videos in your course. If you'd like to learn more about Echo360, including how to download personal capture software and record or upload your videos in the Echo360 platform, please see the Echo360 Faculty Guide.
Moderators can use the Make Video Follow Moderator Focus option to force everyone to see what the moderator sees in the primary video display. This option overrides all other methods to control the primary video display.
To view the video transmitted by others, your primary video display must be open. If it is collapsed, click Expand. If you do not want to view video, click Collapse.
If only one video camera is installed on your computer, Blackboard Collaborate automatically uses it when you preview and transmit video. However, if you have more than one video input device on your computer, you can choose which device to use.
On the video site, look for an icon or button to Share the video. If there is an embed option, follow these steps: 1 On the video site, select and copy (Ctrl+C) all of the text within the Embed Code field 2 In Blackboard, create an Item (or any other Blackboard tool that includes the standard Text Editor) 3 Click the HTML button at the far right; this opens the HTML editor 4 Paste (Ctrl+V) the embed code within the HTML window and click the Update button 5 Click the Submit button
With Kaltura Capture, you can easily create videos with your webcam and a recording of your computer screen. Kaltura Quizzes allow you to embed questions within the video, as well.
Students may also use Kaltura to store and share video in Blackboard courses, such as on the Discussion Board or as an Assignment submission. In the Ultra Course View, Kaltura is available within the Content Market.
Then, go to the content area in your Blackboard course where you would like to embed the video. Click on the “Insert/ Edit Embedded Media” button in the text editor. In the window that pops up, paste the URL for your video.
Next, upload the video file to your YouTube channel and copy the video’s URL. Note: If you are in the “Creator Studio” because you added captions, do not use the URL listed on the video’s edit page.
