Chalkboard background

With the chalkboard background, you’ve pretty much got two options: green or black. You could try and create your own chalkboard background or just get one that’s freely available on the web. Here are a few free chalkboard backgrounds:

Chalkboard colours

Just because you’re creating a chalkboard-style design doesn’t mean that you’re stuck with plain, old black and white. You’ve got colours to work with! Here are some nice pastel-looking colours for common chalk colours.

Chalkboard fonts

Some fonts work great for the chalkboard style. Here’s a hand selection.

Chalkboard Photoshop layer styles

To get that chalky look on the text, I actually used Photoshop styles. If you’ve never used Photoshop layer styles before, check out this amazing tutorial by Creative Market about How to install and use Photoshop Layer Styles.

10 The invites look like an advert for a graphic designer

There was a time - say, anytime before the new millennium - when wedding invites were resolutely white, dull and covered in twee silver wedding bells. Not so anymore! Now that most of have read the Adobe software Guides for Dummies, we've discovered how to create more personalised cards and invites.

9 The Ceremony is in a barn

The big day has finally arrived; you put on your gladrags and head to the ceremony. Unless your hipster couple have opted for a religious ceremony within their place of worship (not common among the hipster crowd) you may well find that the ceremony and setting afterwards are held in the pared-back remote setting of a barn.

7 Blackboards signpost the seating plan, the menu and everything else

The seating plan is certainly nothing new. It's the bride and groom’s way of deciding who likes who, who should hook up with who and who should definitely not speak to who at their wedding. Upon entering the wedding reception you will find a seating plan telling you what table to sit at and who will sit next to you.

6 There are fairy lights

Once you’ve celebrated the ceremony itself and the sun starts to set you’ll see that the vaulted roof of your barnyard setting has been decorated with some twinkling fairy lights. These of course, must be clear in hue - not the flashing coloured ones you put on your Christmas tree - and will set the scene for when you take to the dancefloor.

5 The Bride and Groom have vintage wedding rings

The world of celebrity teaches us that the bigger the bling, the better, but that is not always necessarily the case.

4 The Bride and Bridesmaids have flowers in their hair

It’s an age old tradition that the female members of the wedding party carry flowers, but with the hipster wedding they become a wedding accessory too. Not garish, '90s 'Four Weddings and a Funeral' style; think more boho-chic and festival darling. The goal of the hipster bride is to look naturally beautiful and slightly undone.

3 Food is bespoke, artisan and in some way pickled

It’s all very well and good enjoying the aesthetics at these hipster weddings over the summer, but if you are the guest at one, chances are the food is going to be your main focus after the nuptials themselves.
