So instead of using chalkboard paint like I did I would make my own using exterior paint and tile grout. You can find the recipe from Martha Stewart herself right here. Many of the Outdoor Chalkboard DIYs I've seen use sheathing plywood and chalkboard paint. These materials aren't weatherproof and wouldn't last a season of rain/snow.
