The Grade attempts setting determines how the final grade is automatically calculated, but you have the option to override the grade. Each attempt is subject to the due date you set for the assignment.

You can enable anonymous grading for assignments and tests that don't contain the built-in question types. You may add only text and files to anonymously graded assignments and tests. Student names are hidden while you grade and are revealed only after you post all grades.
Locate the student and the assignment for which you would like to allow an additional attempt. Hover over the the grade area and click the gray drop-down arrow for more options, then click View Grade Details. From the pull down menu select View Grade Details. 4. On the screen that appears, find the submission near the bottom of the screen. To the right of the entry, click the button labeled Clear Attempt.
On the Grade Details page, you can view a student's attempts and grade history, assign and edit a grade, and clear and exempt grades.

You can manually disable anonymous grading at any time by clearing the Enable Anonymous Grading check box. You can turn anonymous grading on and off until a student submits an attempt. After the first submission, you can only turn it off.
With this feature enabled, when creating a new assignment an "Anonymous Grading" option is available to check off to make it so that "Graders cannot view student names" when in the SpeedGrader or in the Gradebook.Nov 24, 2021
