The plot revolves around a student body election and satirizes politics and high school life. The film stars Matthew Broderick as Jim McAllister, a popular high school social studies teacher, and Reese Witherspoon as Tracy Flick, an overachieving student whom he dislikes.
“All of the extras were students from that high school, which lent to the film exactly what I wanted, which was authenticity,” he said. And though Witherspoon herself “was 20 or 21 at the time,” he added, “she still passed for a high schooler. Had she not, I wouldn't have cast her.”May 2, 2019

Election [1999] [R] - 7.2. 6 | Parents' Guide & Review | Kids-In-Mind.com. SEX/NUDITY 7 - Lots of sexual innuendo (including a boy's reference to being well-endowed), instances of teen and teacher/student sex, and some sex talk during intercourse and regarding intercourse.
The ending of "Election" is just as bleak as the rest of the film, as McAllister, life ruined after trying to rig the election away from Flick, sees her in a crowd of D.C. politicians and eggs her car. That is the kind of spiteful pettiness that makes Payne's characters so great (think Paul Giamatti in "Sideways").May 17, 2011
Tracy Flick wins the school election, and teacher Jim McAllister has to resign after being caught manipulating the result in an effort to make Paul the winner.
