Feb 04, 2022 · Yes. When taking a proctored exam, the Blackboard can record you using both the webcam and the microphone of your computer. It achieves this through the Respondus Monitor proctoring software that is capable of accessing your webcam and the microphone. However, on normal logins, Blackboard cannot record the user.
Typically on blackboard you can take exams, and there’s never any indication that you need to use a camera or that it is on. The only time I was ever recorded was when I was on a zoom call, and had blackboard open at the same time. But that was when I used two devices. My computer for blackboard, and my phone for zoom.
If you are taking a timed test, note that the timer will begin to count down when you click to open the test, and will continue to do so, even if you close the test window. In a normal assignment environment, Blackboard or Canvas cannot detect screen sharing or screenshots if a student is working on them using a normal browser. The recording is only available to group members and instructors/TAs via the group's Collaborate page. Students cannot share a link or download the recording. Only the instructor/TA has the ability to get a link to the recording, edit the name, and delete the recording.Jan 28, 2021
Click on the menu on the left hand side and click on recordings. Be aware that your recording will not show up automatically. It will take between 10 minutes to an hour after recording to see your recording pop up here, so plan accordingly.
