In Blackboard it is recommended that you have your students submit their work using any of the following file formats; Word (DOC, DOCX), PowerPoint (PPT, PPTX), Excel (XLS, XLSX), and PDF (PDF). If students submit RTF files you are required to download each assignment manually grade their work and send the file back to your students via email or another source.

The OCR PDF alternatives are created when the original content is a PDF of an image. OCR technology analyses the content and converts the image into searchable text. The conversion is only as good as the quality of the original content. If the content is difficult to analyze, there may be mistakes.
What is Semantic HTML? Tags and elements—such as blockquote, paragraph, and headings—are added to add meaning to a page. These tag and elements aid screen reader users with good content structure.
Ally detects the language of the original content and selects a matching language for the audio format file. If you want the original content in a different language, try the Translated Version format.
The audio alternative reads aloud the text in the original content. This also includes alternative descriptions for images, if they are provided. The audio format is saved as an MP3. MP3s are compressed, high-quality sound files that can be played on any computer or mobile device.
When posting files in Blackboard for students to view/download it is highly recommended that you offer your students PDF versions. A PDF file is mobile friendly and students are able to view these documents on just about every device without additional downloads required.

The alternative formats created depend on the original content. If you don't see an option to download alternative formats, Ally isn’t enabled for that course or the file is not a supported content type. Select the Download Alternative Formats icon wherever you see it to download the content in a different format.
In courses, learning modules show progress and support conditional availability and sequential view. Students can see all learning module items, including those that aren't yet available, so they have a complete picture of the work ahead.
Users can't see the module table of contents like they can in a desktop web browser. Contents are listed similar to a content folder. Full support (Ultra courses). Ultra course learning modules are fully supported in the mobile apps and have enhanced functionality and progress indicators.
At this time, we recommend that instructors and course builders use plain text in test and assignment instructions to ensure the best display for students in the Blackboard app. Some formatting that is supported for other types of content doesn't show to students in assessment instructions.
The Blackboard app doesn't support the Original course Mark Reviewed feature at this time. Students need to access a course in a desktop web browser to use this feature if the instructor made it available for a content item.
Within Ultra courses, journals don’t show in the Due Dates list and don't appear in Course Content. A future release* will show journals within courses. Please access your course on a web browser to view Ultra journals that don't have due dates.
