For anyone serving in the role of Moderator or Presenter in a Collaborate conference, Blackboard recommends using either Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox. As of now, these are the only browsers that support WebRTC (Real-Time Conferencing) technology and Collaborate's Share Application feature.
The new Windows 10 browser, Microsoft Edge, is listed as being supported by Blackboard. At this time the GVSU Blackboard Support group recommends Firefox, Chrome or Safari. A list of Blackboard supported browsers can be found here.Jan 1, 2018

Make sure that cookies from third parties are allowed. Third party cookies are allowed by default on all supported browsers. If you experience problems staying logged in to Blackboard, please check your browser settings to make sure you allow third party cookies.

The Blackboard browser check will check the following configurations: 1 Browser Check: Checks to see if the browser you are using is validated for use with Blackboard. At this time, we only support browsers that are Compatible or Certified. 2 JavaScript Check: Almost every part of the Learning System relies on JavaScript for the ability to generate interactive web pages. You must have JavaScript enabled. 3 Cookies Check: Makes sure your browser is configured to allow cookies, small bits of data Blackboard stores on your computer. 4 Pop-up Blocker: The Learning System sometimes uses small browser windows to deliver requested content. 5 Port 80 Check: Port 80 is your standard Internet port and its how information enters your computer from Blackboard. 6 Java Check: Checks to make sure Java is installed on your system. 7 PDF Check: Verifies that you can open Adobe Acrobat files.
The first step to see if your computer is set up for Blackboard is to check your browser compatibility. The Blackboard browser check will check the following configurations: Browser Check: Checks to see if the browser you are using is validated for use with Blackboard.
Collaborate Ultra requires a modern web browser with WebRTC support. Collaborate requires certain permissions to function as desired. For example, Collaborate needs permission to access your camera and microphone so you can use audio and video.
Application Sharing is available on Chrome, Firefox, and Microsoft Edge (Chromium), with no plugins required. It is not yet available in Safari stable releases. It may be made available in a future Safari stable release.
iOS 11, iPadOS. Other Linux distributions may be operational with Chr ome and/or Firefox but are not tested and not supported. Virtual Machines may be operational with any of the above operating system and browser combinations, but are not tested and not supported.
Unsupported browsers may work properly with Blackboard Collaborate . If you experience issues, update your browser and operating system to the latest version. If after the update you're still experiencing the same issue you may have your administrator submit a support case on Behind the Blackboard.

Internet Explorer Users. Some configuration options for Internet Explorer may make certain features of Blackboard difficult to use.
Internet Explorer 9 is tested in Standards Mode. Some known issues can be resolved by using Compatibility Mode (emulates IE7 behavior). Both Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox have moved to a rapid release cycle. At the time of testing, Chrome 16.0 and Firefox 9.0 were the latest available versions.
Blackboard supports the latest versions of: Google Chrome (highly recommended by USI Blackboard Support) Firefox (recommended by USI Blackboard Support) Internet Explorer (not recommended by USI Blackboard Support) Regardless of which internet browser you are using, You must have the latest version of java installed on your computer.

This includes: WebKit, which powers Safari, Chrome, and Opera. Blink, a version of WebKit that powers the most recent versions of Chrome. Trident, which powers Internet Explorer.
If it cannot replicate the issue, Blackboard will recommend that the client move to a browser version fully supported by Blackboard. In some cases, an additional recommendation might be to update to a more modern version of Blackboard Learn.
Blackboard also provides a Building Block to allow users to acknowledge a cookie disclosure statement when logging in to Blackboard Learn, as is required in some places. To learn more about this Building Block, see the Security Management - Cookie Disclosure topic.
Regardless of the browser being used, Blackboard Learn requires the use of session cookies and javascript enabled in the user's browser to provide the right experience for teaching and learning.
Newer browser versions. Because of the increased frequency of new browser version released by some vendors, Blackboard's policy is to support all new browser versions released to the market as Generally Available or by supported release channels, even if the browser is released after testing has concluded for the release.
A handful of Blackboard Learn features require particular additional software to be installed. Without these, the features themselves do not function. Users may be prompted to install the additional software when accessing these features, or depending on individual browser security settings, users may need to acknowledge a browser message allowing the plugin to run on their system.
Performance: Older browser versions can have issues that impact the performance of Collaborate. Security : Older browser versions could have known security issues and flaws that are made public.
While you can in most cases join a session with some version older than the last two, you may not get the best experience and we can't guarantee the use of Collaborate with those. Users on older browser versions can still submit support requests for issues they encounter.
Outdated technology: Older browser versions can be outdated and not have the technology and functionality required for Collaborate. Often browser companies fix the issue in a newer release and eventually end support on the older versions. As a result, Collaborate tests and validates the two most recent stable versions of the supported browsers.
