This site was originally intended as a place for me to find quick answers to questions that students and instructors have asked since I started working with Blackboard Support. The idea was to have responses that I could copy and paste into e-mails.

As you can see, I need to do some consolidating and re-organizing of these Help Desk sites.

How to download a file from a computer?

In the control panel, click Grade Center>Full Grade Center. Then, hover over Work Offline and select Download. Select User Information only. Leave the delimiter type a tab, but include hidden information… that will pick up anyone that may have accidentally been hidden. Leave Download location set to My Computer and click submit. Next click the download button and save the file. It will probably put the file in your downloads folder so you will need to move it to the appropriate folder after you download it.

Can guests access class sites in Blackboard?

Guests have very limited access to class sites in Blackboard. In fact, I looked on a spreadsheet of User Roles and Privileges that Blackboard provides and Guests do not have any of the privileges listed on the spreadsheet!

Do all students have a blackboard?

Yes, all students, faculty and staff on all the campuses are included in the Blackboard system. It’s all tied together by a Network Username, which is the username used to log into Blackboard, but it is also the first part of the official email address, regardless of campus. For example, the username for a student on a campus - [email protected] or [email protected] or [email protected] , or [email protected] - would be susanq. FYI, the students at the Palmetto College campuses (the two year campuses) use the same email system as USC Columbia: [email protected]

Can students see my course site?

Sometimes a student cannot see your course site when he or she logs into Blackboard. Assuming that there is no problem with registration (see Self-Service Carolina to confirm he or she is enrolled in the correct section of the course) there are normally two things that can cause the problem:

1) On the My USC tab, the module on the top, left side of the screen will have links. (In this example, it currently shows that you have No Evaluations Available at this Time):

We know very few instructors or offices that use Class Climate for other surveys, mostly because they use surveys in Blackboard or one of the free survey tools with much more friendly interfaces such as Survey Monkey.
