Under the Select Columns section, click on a column or category to include in the weighted grade. Use the arrow to move the selected column or category to the Selected Columns area. If you turn the curve on its side, you reverse those axes. The X-axis is the percentage of the class and the Y-axis is the grade. Each student represents a percent of the class. If there are 25 students, each student represents 4% of the class.
Weighted totals are calculated based on percentages and not based on grading schemas/letter grades. Columns included in the weighted total aren't displayed using the same grading schema as the input grade values.
To curve grades, start by finding the highest grade earned in the whole class. Then, subtract that grade from 100. Finally, add that number to every student's grade. For example, if the highest score in the class was 90 percent, you would subtract 90 from 100 and get 10.
A simple method for curving grades is to add the same amount of points to each student's score. A common method: Find the difference between the highest grade in the class and the highest possible score and add that many points. If the highest percentage grade in the class was 88%, the difference is 12%.
To calculate standard deviation, subtract the mean from each test score to find each score's deviation. Square each deviation, then add up all the squared deviations. Weighted Total vs. Total: the two columns are created by default in every Blackboard space. The Total column shows the number of points attained out of the total possible. The Weighted Total shows the current total as determined by the weighting scheme set in the Edit Column Information page as above.
Weighted Column calculates and displays a grade for a selected number of Columns based upon each column's respective worth of the total grade. Columns with text as the primary display cannot be displayed as a weighted grade.Feb 16, 2018
The WEIGHTED TOTAL column enables instructors to set the weight (or value) of individual assignments and assignment categories independent of the number of points in an assignment. If you set every assignment to 100 points but count one assignment as 10% and another as 25%, this is the column for you.
