Picture scan looks like a black and white photocopy and not a very good one. Requires very steady hands to execute in auto mode or you can take it manually. Zoom out so the whole board is visible otherwise if it captures just the screen; the image is cropped at the edges too tight. The edit mode is a simple black pen or yellow highlighter.

Great product and app

The speed and simplicity of both the product and the app is wonderful. The interface with my iPhone XS max is delightful. I love to try out the latest electronics and computers and often spend quite a lot of money on things that have tons of features.

Does the Jot app save pictures?

The Jot app saves files as PNGs, which you can manipulate later in an image editing program like Adobe Photoshop Elements or Photoshop CC, or in the app itself. There is no actual pairing process to save images, since the app uses your phone or tablet's camera to capture images on the Jot's LCD. I used a Samsung Galaxy S6 to test.

Can you use a stylus as a kickstand?

When you aren't writing, you can position the stylus in the cradle to use it as a kickstand for the tablet. Two integrated, rectangular magnets on the back of the Jot let you mount it on refrigerators, filing cabinets, or any other magnetized surface.

Is the Jot camera good for scanning?

And scanning itself can be a challenge. Auto mode (pictured above) is finicky, since you need to ensure the Jot's LCD is free from glare and against a flat, contrasting surface so the camera can detect it. This takes time, careful positioning and, most importantly, patience. Manual mode (pictured right) is faster, but similarly unreliable because it simply takes a black-and-white photo, no matter how you position the Jot.

Can you use a pencil to edit pictures?

The only settings you can adjust in the app are whether or not Auto or Manual is your default scanning mode. Besides that, you can use a pencil tool to lightly edit your pictures on your device and share them via email, social media, or text message.
