Make sure there is no dust on the it – the adhesive doesn't hold well if you stick the chalkboard sticker on top of dust. Grab the chalkboard and peel the backing paper off about an inch. Chalkboard vinyl is just what the name implies. It is designed to be used as a chalkboard. However it does not really work all that well with regular chalk. We do have our Bistro Chalkboard Markers that work exceptionally well with it. These markers are waterbased and clean off nice and easy with a damp cloth.

The product I came to these reviews through was Cricut stencil vinyl. It is not regular vinyl that you use to leave permanently on products.
