Your institution controls which tools are available. On the Grade Details page, you can view a student's attempts and grade history, assign and edit a grade, and clear and exempt grades.
You can allow more than one attempt for an assignment. This is a good way to permit students to send in drafts and earn credit on improvements. You can provide feedback for a large assignment so that students can demonstrate mastery.
Multiple attempts In Assignment Settings, you can choose to let students submit more than one attempt. Multiple attempts change how the assignment's final grade is calculated. Choose how you want to calculate the final grade: Average of all attempts.
You must manually review late submissions to remove the Needs Grading status. When you access a late submission and select Save and Exit, the automatically graded test grade is released to students and the grade appears in the Grade Center column. The test no longer appears on the Needs Grading page.
Locate the student and the assignment for which you would like to allow an additional attempt. Hover over the the grade area and click the gray drop-down arrow for more options, then click View Grade Details. An attempt grade refers to the score that a student receives for an actual attempt. An attempt grade could be a score automatically created from a test, or it could set manually, for example by an instructor viewing an Assignment submission and entering an attempt grade.

In the Grade Center, locate the cell with the student's graded test or assignment grade to override and access its menu. Select View Grade Details. On the Grade Details page, select the Manual Override tab and type a new grade in the Override Grade box. Optionally, type Feedback to User and Grading Notes for yourself.
Exempting a student means that the points for that assignment do not factor into the student's overall grade and therefore do not positively or negatively impact the student's grade.
You can't edit a submitted assignment, but you may be allowed to resubmit it. However, you can't resubmit all assignments. Check if you can submit an assignment more than once. If you can't and made a mistake, you must contact your instructor to ask for the opportunity to resubmit the assignment.
