Lab Week A and Lab Week B Rotations

You should have signed up for a lab section when you registered for your physics course. The lab section which you signed up for should have had "Lab A" or "Lab B" included in the title. This is the lab week which you should attend. The calendar at the top right side of this page shows which lab sessions occur on which weeks.

Makeup Labs to Clear an Incomplete Grade from a Previous Semester

If you receive an incomplete and need to make up some of the labs in the following semester, you need to register as an Audit in PHY181 (for PHY113 and PHY121 labs), PHY182 or PHY184 (for PHY122/142 and PHY114 labs), or PHY183 (for PHY123 labs).

General Remarks

In order to complete any of the Introductory Physics courses (PHY 113, 114, 121-123, 142, 181-184), you must complete (and pass) all five of the associated laboratory exercises. These labs provide a hands-on realization of a sample of the topics that are covered in the parent course.

Grading

All pre-labs and post-labs are graded by TA's according to same set of rubrics. The prelabs carry 2 points while the postlabs will be graded out of 20. Missing the lab will result in an incomplete grade ('I') in the course. The grades for the prelabs and postlabs are recorded in blackboard.

Lab Manuals

Here you may download the lab manuals for your physics course. Please bring a printed copy with you to your lab session; the TA will not have extra copies. The prelab, the first page of the lab, will be collected at the start of the lab session. TA's will also make sure that the postlabs are blank before the experiment.

What are the outcomes of physics?

Physics I Lecture & Lab Course Outcomes 1 Demonstrate an understanding of the fundamental principles of the scientific method, as well as fundamental laws, theories, and principles related to physics. 2 Apply knowledge and critical thinking skills to relevant physics problems. 3 Plan and conduct laboratory investigations to predict relationships between key variables in physics problems. Analyze independently collected data using tools, technologies, and models to make valid and reliable scientific claims. 4 Apply ideas, principles, and/or evidence gained from various experiments, as well as other observations, to provide a physical explanation of everyday phenomena and solve problems, taking into account possible unanticipated effects. 5 Communicate results of lab experiments and independent work through multiple representations.
