A 400 Bad Request error means that the request the client made is incorrect or corrupt, and the server can't understand it. The main thing to understand is that the 400 error is a client-side error. It indicates that the request the client submitted can't be processed by the server.

Why is my browser saying 400 error?

Many websites (including Google and YouTube) report a 400 error because the cookies they are reading are either corrupt or too old. Some browser extensions can also change your cookies and cause 400 errors. It’s also possible that your browser has cached a corrupt version of the page you’re trying to open.

Why is my server throwing 400 errors?

Some servers that are not configured properly can also throw 400 errors instead of more helpful errors in some situations. For example, when you try to upload a file that’s too big to some sites, you might get a 400 error instead of an error letting you know about the maximum file size.

1. You're entering the Wrong Username or Password

Clear out any saved usernames and passwords from your browser and enter them fresh

2. Your account is not yet in Blackboard (bad timing)

Did you just register today? Your account will not be added to Blackboard until tomorrow morning - around 4:00 AM. Please try to log in tomorrow - but take note: You won't see your classes yet!

3. You are no longer enrolled in any active classes

If you have been dropped for non-payment, then your account will no longer be active in Blackboard. Check your schedule in CougarWeb to ensure that you are still registered for the current term.

4. Too Many Session Cookies (HTTP Error 400 Bad Request - Header Field Too Long)

Over time, the session cookies build up until Blackboard throws an error similar to the following:

What you can try to fix the issue

Use the Chat Support feature in My Settings. The chatbot is always on and responds to commonly asked Collaborate questions and issues.
