Instead of receiving an actual letter grade with a value (A, B, C, etc.), the student's grade will have an "I" for incomplete. With an incomplete, students are typically given more time to finish assignments; their "I" changes to an actual grade letter when these assignments are completed.
Complete/Incomplete will give all points the assignment can earn if it is complete, but none if incomplete. Points allows the number to be entered directly. Letter grade and GPA both refer to a grading scheme.
An incomplete grade (IN) is a temporary grade contingent on the student's agreement to complete the work they missed. Tests are (in most cases) assessed by Blackboard, and grades are automatically recorded in the Grade Center. If a Test or Assignment allows for multiple attempts, the instructor may choose which attempt to use.
1. Click on the cell with the existing grade, and type in another grade. Check the Grade Information Bar above Points Possible and Primary Display.
The Grade Center has added the ability to drop or exempt a grade from total calculations.
If your institution makes changes to the default grading schema, the changes aren't reflected in your course. Only new courses created after the change have the edited schema. You can rename the schema in your course.
Grades appear in the gradebook, on Grades pages, and in your course with the graded items for students, such as assignments and tests. For each graded item and calculation, you can choose to display grades as points, letters (A, B, C), or a percentage with the grading schema.
The name change only applies to the course you're in. Point to the title to access the edit icon. Schema titles have a 64-character limit. The name change appears in the Grade using menu when you create graded items and in existing graded items.
The gradebook is populated with students when they're enrolled in your course. You'll see all the coursework that's specific to the course you're in. You can grade coursework, manage items, and post grades.
In your course gradebook, you can add a new item in the Gradable Items list or student grid view. Select the plus sign wherever you want to add an item and select Add Item. In the panel, type a title. The title has a limit of 255 characters. If you don't add a title, "New Item" and the date appear in the list.
The overall grade is a calculated item that you build to show students a running tally of all the items that you grade and post. Select Set it up to create a gradebook column for the overall grade.
To make items or categories exempt from the overall grade, select the Exempt icon next to the overall grade percentage field. The item or category turns gray to indicate that it's not included in the calculation. Select the icon again to include the item or category in the calculation again.
Instructors who teach hybrid courses may find this type of assessment most useful. For example, you can use a rubric to grade an in-class presentation as a student presents. No need to take notes or add a score later. When you create an assessment, you can choose to collect submissions offline.
They see the item on their global and course grades pages—with or without a grade. Reminder: Manually added items don't appear on the Course Content page. When you assign a grade, students are notified in their activity streams.
These grade items are also called manual grades, manually created items, or offline items. For manually added items, no submissions exist. You assign scores and feedback on the student list page.
