When the launcher is installed, clicking a session or recording link triggers the download of a .collab file. The launcher uses this file to launch Blackboard Collaborate using a known and stable version of Java. Because the launcher includes the required Java, you do not need to install and maintain the system version of Java.
If your browser also prompts you to open the .collab file, do not do so until you have installed the launcher. When you run the installer, you possibly may see an Installer Information dialog that says "the cabinet file is corrupt and cannot be used.". It means the download of the installer was incomplete.
As a first time user, when you select Join Room on the Room Details page or a recording link in the Recordings table, Blackboard Collaborate prompts you to download the launcher. Your browser tries to detect the launcher to see if it is already installed.
Your computer may not know what application is required to open .collab files. Normally, once the launcher is installed, the file association between it and .collab files is already established. However, if the association was not made, you can make it either through your operating system or, if a Firefox user, through your browser.
If you installed the launcher and set the file association but are still having problems launching your .collab file, try clearing the launcher's Java cache.
If all other troubleshooting solutions failed, uninstall and reinstall the launcher.

The Blackboard Collaborate Launcher is installed by a file named ‘BlackboardCollaborateLauncher-Win.msi’. To download the file, follow the below instructions:
If for whatever reason the Blackboard Collaborate Launcher cannot be installed, there is a workaround to access your meeting using your local system's version of Java instead of the version provided by the Blackboard Collaborate Launcher.
